Evro’s decade-by-decade series covering all Formula 1 cars and teams moves into its seventh volume, devoted to the most recent decade. This was a period of two halves in various ways, not least the dramatic technical leap in 2014 when Formula 1 swapped its 2.4-litre naturally aspirated V8s for the 1.6-litre V6 turbo-hybrid power units still used today. That same year also brought a stark change of fortunes, with the newly dominant Mercedes team displacing previously supreme Red Bull, and Lewis Hamilton ending Sebastian Vettel’s four-year reign by becoming World Champion in five of the decade’s remaining six seasons. As ever, technology moved on apace and the turbo-hybrid cars soon became quicker than their predecessors.

• Year-by-year treatment explores each season in fascinating depth, running through the teams — and their various cars — in championship order.
• Red Bull: five years after arriving in Formula 1, Red Bull Racing ruled from 2010 to 2013 with Adrian Newey’s formidable series of Renault-powered cars, RB6 to RB9.
• Mercedes: this team took charge for the rest of the decade, winning all six constructors’ titles in the period 2014–19, starting with the W05 and ending with the W10, and in a truly dominant 2016 took victory in all but two of the races.
• Ferrari: Formula 1’s oldest and most famous name won from time to time throughout the decade but was never able to challenge for the title, as evidenced by five second places and four third places in the constructors’ standings.
• McLaren: despite its rich heritage, McLaren was another major team that struggled for much of this decade, particularly when the turbo-hybrid era brought six winless seasons.
• The book gives plenty of space to lesser teams, whether midfield stalwarts (such as Williams, Force India and Toro Rosso) or perennial tailenders (such as HRT, Caterham and Marussia/Manor).
• Over 340 colour photos from the comprehensive archives of XPB Images show every type of car that raced, presenting a comprehensive survey.
