PETE LYONS INDUCTED INTO MOTORSPORTS HALL OF FAME OF AMERICA
On Tuesday, March 11, 2026, Pete Lyons was inducted into the Media Category of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America at a gala in Daytona Beach, Florida, home base of the MSHFA.
In front of a capacity crowd, all decked out in their black-tie finery, Pete accepted the honour from fellow Evro author Brian Redman for his decades-long outstanding work in the motorsports media, as a journalist and photographer.
Pete’s career flourished during the 1960s and 1970s, resulting in his writing My Travels on Racer Road: Can-Am and Formula 1 in their golden age. Published by Evro in 2025, the book covers his journey alongside the elite racing celebrities of the day.
Standing at the podium, sharing the stage with the other 2026 honorees — Joe Boyer (Historic); Steve Gibbs (NHRA); Bill Holland (Historic); John Morton (Sports Cars); Kenny Roberts Jr. (Motorcycles); Sammy Swindell (Open Wheel) and Dave Willwock (Powerboats) — Lyons was humbled.
“Wow,” he said. “I feel like I’m standing on the bridge of a starship looking out at a galaxy of real superstars. And, I’m thinking ‘what the heck am I doing here.’ I am so grateful for this honour.”
Brian Redman, author of Evro’s Brian Redman: Daring drivers, deadly tracks, made an eloquent presentation: “It is my honour and pleasure to introduce Pete Lyons, a virtual doyen of motorsport photography and journalism,” adding, “tonight we remember more than a racer, more than a photographer, more than a chronicler of motorsport We remember a storyteller of speed, a guardian of racing’s living history, a man who ensured that the spirit of the track would never be lost to the silence of time.”
This was the MSHFA’s 38th induction ceremony, honouring ‘the most impactful drivers, innovators and pioneers in motorsports history.’
